Kathleen Hart, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist who has a private practice in Falmouth, Maine. Dr. Hart works with children, teens, young adults and families. She treats adolescent and young adults with eating disorders and athletes with eating disorders. Dr. Hart works with individuals with anxiety and mood disorders as well as trauma. She also works with issues related to physical health such as coping with physical illnesses, sports related injuries and chronic illnesses. Her primary treatment methods are Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness training, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Exposure treatments, Exposure Response Prevention, Family Therapy, and Family Based Treatment (The Maudsley Method). She also integrates Motivational Interviewing for individuals thinking about change but are not ready to take action.
Research
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Hart has devoted a portion of her career to psychological research. Dr. Hart worked in Treatment Outcome Research at Charles River Hospital in Massachusetts. While in graduate school, she studied the relationship between parental attachments, sex roles and eating disorders. Her research findings are published in the Journal of Psychological Assessment, The Journal of Counseling and Clinical Psychology and The Journal of Sex Roles.

Athletes and Eating Disorders
Dr. Hart works with athletes experiencing disordered eating and eating disorders. Because athletes have unique medical and performance demands, treatment must be specialized and timely to address symptoms quickly and support a safe, sustained recovery.
As a psychologist, Dr. Hart collaborates with sports medicine teams as part of an integrated, coordinated approach to athlete care.

Background and Clinical Training
Dr. Hart received her doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Boston College. She received her predoctural practicum training at The Judge Baker Clinic at The Children’s Hospital Boston/Harvard Medical School and at The Cambridge Hospital in Cambridge/Harvard Medical School. Dr. Hart received her APA-approved predoctoral internship training at The Children’s Hospital Denver, Colorado/University of Health Sciences. Before starting her private practice, Dr. Hart worked at Bethesda Hospital in Englewood, Colorado on the Eating Disorders and Substance Use Disorders units. While raising her family, Dr. Hart has been in private practice for over fifteen years in Falmouth, Maine.
Eating Disorders Treatment
In addition to her general practice, Dr. Hart specializes in treating Eating Disorders and holds a Certification as an Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS) with the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (Iaedp). Dr. Hart works with all-gender children, adolescents and young adults with eating disorders including disordered eating, Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, ARFID, Compulsive Overeating, over exercising, orthorexia, OCD-related eating disorders and other eating-related issues. She also works with individuals with body dysmorphic disorder, body dysthymia and Substance Use Disorders in conjunction with eating issues. Dr. Hart uses a variety of treatment modalities depending on the needs of the client. These include: Acceptance Commitment Therapy, mindfulness training, Family-Based Treatment (including the Maudsley Method) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Dr. Hart collaborates with dietitians, social workers, nurse practitioners, physicians, healthcare professionals, school and college nurses, athletic coaches and trainers, school counselors and college deans as part of an integrated approach to client care and treatment.
